Tule Mountain anchors the southern landscape of this 2015 survey, marking a high point above the Modoc National Forest where the high desert meets the northern mountains. The hydrological network is the most prominent feature, with the South Fork Pit River flowing across the northern reach near the settlement of Kauffman. To the east, the large W Valley Reservoir and nearby Mud Lake reflect the critical importance of water management in this arid region of Northern California.
