The Sacramento Valley floor meets the rising volcanic topography of the Cascade foothills in this 2015 study of Tehama County. The settlement of Dairyville sits at the edge of the Central Valley plain, where a grid of rural roads like Kauffman Ave and Foothill Rd gives way to the sharp, dissected ridges of the east. The landscape is defined by its drainage systems, from the waters of Tuscan Springs to the seasonal flows of Little Antelope Cr. High plateaus and dramatic relief dominate the northern sections, notably at Abraham Plains and the prominent ridge known as The Hogback. This terrain is accessed by rugged routes such as Hogsback Rd and Lower Ishi Rd, which navigate the steep descents of Dewitt Gulch and Dehaven Gulch.
