Twistal Swamp dominates the northern landscape of this corner of northwestern Minnesota, where the borders of Kittson, Roseau, and Marshall Counties converge. The terrain is defined by a systematic network of engineered waterways, including State Ditch Number Ninety and Lateral Ditch Number Five, which illustrate the region's long-standing efforts to manage the low-lying wetlands for agricultural use. In the southern portion of the quadrangle, the Tamarac River meanders across the plain, providing a natural contrast to the rigid grid of county roads and section lines.
