The Umpqua River winds through the northwestern corner of this Douglas County landscape, crossed by the Bullock Bridge at Little Canyon. The terrain is defined by a series of prominent elevations including Tyee Mountain, Yellow Creek Mtn, and Spooner Ridge, which divide the drainages of Yellow Cr, Williams Cr, and Dodge Canyon Cr. This network of steep ridges and deep draws, such as Galagher Canyon, historically dictated the path of the valley roads and the placement of small rural outposts.
