The Saint Joseph River and Coldwater River converge near the village of Union City on the border of Calhoun and Branch counties. This area is defined by a complex network of agricultural drainage systems such as Histand Drain, Rowe and Wallace Drain, and Kendig Drain, which manage the low-lying terrain north of Union Lake. In the western portion of the sheet, the village of Athens is situated near the Nottawa Creek wetlands, while to the south, the settlement of Sherwood sits near the winding river banks.
