1950 Map of Upper Broad Creek

USGS Topo · Published 1993

About this map

Upper Broad Creek and Goose Creek dominate this coastal landscape as they flow into the wide Neuse River at the boundary of Craven and Pamlico counties. The map reflects a mid-century coastal environment transitioning into a modern residential and recreational hub, most notably with the development of Fairfield Harbour and its associated Golf Course and Marina. While the newer developments appear in purple revision overlays, the original 1950s infrastructure is preserved in the locations of Lees Landing and Wood Landing. Inland, small rural communities are anchored by the New Bethlehem Ch, Union Chapel, and Amity Ch. The southern bank of the river is bordered by the edge of the Croatan National Forest, while family-named points like Mc Cotter Pt and Rowland Pt define the intricate shoreline and surrounding wetlands of Alexander Swamp and Gaston Swamp.
