Upper Nutria and Lower Nutria anchor this portion of the Eastern Navajo Agency, situated where the high desert terrain meets the eastern reaches of the Cibola National Forest. The landscape is defined by the course of the Rio Nutria, which feeds the Nutria Diversion Reservoir and supports a network of vital water sources in an otherwise arid environment. Notable landmarks such as The Hogback and Oso Ridge provide dramatic vertical relief, while Mexican Hill and Red Mesa overlook the canyon systems that crisscross the quadrangle.
