Upson and Rouse anchor this topographic survey of the Northwoods, where the landscape is defined by a dense network of watercourses and wetlands. The drainage pattern is led by the Potato River and the winding Tyler Forks, which collect numerous smaller tributaries such as Norman Cr and Erickson Cr. The terrain is pocketed with glacial features, most notably O'Brien Lake and the smaller Shirley Lake, surrounded by vast marshlands indicated by the National Wetlands Inventory data.
