Utuado serves as the central hub of this mid-century survey, situated at the confluence of the Río Grande and Quebrada de Utuado. The landscape is dominated by the hydroelectric infrastructure of the early 1950s, most notably the sprawling waters of Lago Dos Bocas and Lago Caonillas. These reservoirs, managed by the Planta Hidroeléctrica Dos Bocas and Caonillas Planta Hidroeléctrica No. 1, reflect the industrial modernization of Puerto Rico's interior during this era.
