About this map

Tazlina Lake dominates this glacial landscape in the Copper River Basin, captured here shortly after the war using 1948 aerial photography. The glacial outflow of the Nelchina River enters from the north, creating a complex braided channel system before meeting the deep waters of the lake. Scattered throughout the shoreline and nearby drainages are several isolated cabins, representing the early post-war frontier presence in this part of the Alaska-Third Judicial Division. High elevations are marked by triangulation stations such as VABM Dafna 5713 and VABM Portala 5166, which provide precise control points for this early mid-century topographical study. The network of waterways, including Mendeltna Creek and Tokaina Creek, illustrates the drainage patterns of the surrounding Copper Center region before significant modern development reached these remote stretches.
