Vermilion Peak and Graves Peak anchor the high country where the boundaries of the Kaniksu National Forest, Lolo National Forest, and other protected lands meet. The drainage network is particularly dense here, with the Vermilion River and its tributaries such as Bear Creek and Willow Cr carving deep paths through the terrain. The landscape is dotted with high-altitude water bodies, including the aptly named Image Lake, Marmot Lakes, and the secluded Rush Lake.
