About this map

Waldorf serves as the central hub for this rural Waseca County landscape in the late 1960s, situated at the junction of rail and road. The diagonal route of the Chicago Milwaukee St Paul and Pacific railroad cuts across the agricultural sections of Freedom, Wilton, Vivian, and Byron townships. This agrarian character is reinforced by an extensive network of drainage infrastructure, including Judicial Ditch No 81 and County Ditch No 40, which transformed the prairie wetlands into productive farmland while leaving pockets of habitat like the Mueller State Wildlife Management Area. Genealogists will find a high concentration of local history markers, from the Immanuel Ch in the north to numerous small burial grounds such as Freedom Cem, Vivian Cem, and Radloff Cem. Natural watercourses like the Little Cobb River and Bull Run Creek wind through the fields, leading toward the prominent waters of Silver Lake in the northeast corner.
