Springdale and the eastern outskirts of Water Valley anchor this landscape along the tri-county borders of Lafayette, Yalobusha, and Calhoun. The area is defined by a dense network of watercourses, including the Yocona River and Otoucalofa Creek, which drain the varied terrain of North Central Mississippi. Local heritage is deeply etched into the land through numerous small family and community burial grounds such as Ship Cem, Holt Cem, and Palestine Cem.
