The South Platte River creates a wide, braided corridor through this part of Morgan County, dictating the settlement patterns and extensive irrigation infrastructure of the region. The community of Weldona is established on the northern bank, served by Railroad Ave and bounded by the Weldon Valley Ditch. The surrounding landscape is defined by an intricate network of water management features, including the Fort Morgan Canal, Riverside Intake Canal, and Work and Dragman Ditch, which channel water across the high plains to support local agriculture. North of the river, several reservoirs such as Lamborn Reservoir Number 1 and Christensen Reservoir Number 1 sit among drainage features like Schaefer Draw. To the south, the terrain opens into Bijou Flats and the expansive Bijou Number 2 Reservoir, marking a transition toward the Bijou Cr drainage.
