Mining operations and irrigated ranching define this portion of Lyon and Douglas Counties during the late 1950s. The eastern Singatse Range is heavily marked by industry, including the Ludwig (Site) and numerous extractors such as the Buckskin Mine, Gypsum Mine, and Casting Copper Mine. These industrial sites are linked by an Old Railroad Grade, showing the transport infrastructure of a previous era.

In the valley below, the West Walker River supports a network of irrigation works like the Plymouth Canal and Saroni Canal that feed the agricultural communities of Smith and Wellington. Cultural landmarks like the Hillcrest Cem, the High Sch, and the Honker Duck Club near Artesia Lake provide evidence of the social and recreational fabric of Smith Valley. The western edge of the sheet is dominated by the high peaks of the Pine Nut Mountains, including Oreana Peak and Mt Siegel.
