The Southern Pacific and Western Pacific rail lines converge at Weso in this 1983 provisional survey of the Nevada high desert. The landscape is defined by the winding course of the Humboldt River and its confluence with the Little Humboldt River north of the rail junction. This area served as a critical transportation corridor where the heavy rail infrastructure navigated the valley floor between Winnemucca Mountain and the Bloody Run Hills.
