West Mountain rises sharply as a prominent landform between the southern shores of Utah Lake and the agricultural expanses of Goshen Valley. The landscape is defined by its industrial and hydraulic infrastructure, most notably the massive Keigley Quarry at the southern tip near Goshen Gap. This area serves as a critical corridor for water management and transport, featuring the Strawberry High Line Canal and the Utah Aqueduct skirting the mountain's base.

Settlement patterns in the early 1990s are concentrated along the Genola corporate boundary and the rail-side operations at Payson Sta. The eastern flats are a network of drainage and irrigation, where Benjamin Slough, Beer Creek, and Spring Creek wind through fields dotted with flowing wells and storage bins. The presence of the Union Pacific railroad and numerous levees along the lakefront underscores the region's historical efforts to reclaim and utilize the fertile but marshy bottomlands.
