Rita Blanca National Grassland dominates this high plains landscape in the northwest corner of the Texas Panhandle. Managed as a part of the Cibola National Forest, the area preserves the shortgrass prairie ecosystem that defines Dallam County. The northern portion of the map is deeply etched by the meandering course of Coldwater Creek, which provides the primary topographic relief against the surrounding flat tabletop terrain. Scattered across the grasslands are numerous points labeled Well, indicating the critical role of groundwater management for livestock and conservation in this arid environment. Evidence of human activity and resource exploration appears in isolated landmarks such as Certwin and a lonely Drill Hole, reflecting the sparse but intentional development of these public lands during the late twentieth century.
