The terrain rises sharply from the coast toward the southern uplands, carved by the deep drainage of Chautauqua Creek and its many tributaries like Little Chautauqua Creek. This topography influenced the placement of early infrastructure, seen in the winding path of S Portage Rd and the concentration of local heritage sites within Westfield. The southern reaches of the quadrangle transition into the higher elevations of Mount Baldy, where the water supply is managed through the Minton Reservoir and Kent Reservoir, before sloping toward the crossroads at Volusia.
