The North Fork Middle Fork Willamette River defines the lower-elevation landscape of this region, where the communities of Westfir, Oakridge, and Willamette City converge. Situated within the Willamette National Forest, the area shows a clear transition from the populated river valley to the steep timberlands marked by peaks such as Sourgrass Mtn, Buckhead Mtn, and Dead Mtn. Local infrastructure is concentrated in the southwest corner, featuring the Oakridge State Airport and the historic Office Bridge. A network of Forest Service roads, including Nat For Dev Rd 19, provides access to the high backcountry. Evidence of early settlement is preserved at Forestvale Cem, while the rugged hydrology of the Cascades is mapped through numerous tributaries like Salmon Creek and McLane Cr.
