Whitetail Creek and its many tributaries define the hydrology of this corner of Carter County, where the high plains transition through a series of complex draws and drainages. The landscape is dominated by the branching network of N Fork Whitetail Cr, Middle Fork Whitetail Cr, and S Fork Whitetail Cr, which converge as they flow eastward. To the south, Aldrich Draw cuts through the terrain near Boxelder Creek, illustrating the erosional patterns typical of this Montana region.
