Whitley City and the neighboring community of Stearns anchor this part of McCreary County, situated along the north-south corridor of US Hwy 27. Much of the eastern and central landscape is dominated by the dense woodlands of the Daniel Boone National Forest, where steep drainages like Jenneys Br and Bridge Fork carve through the terrain. The settlement pattern follows the high ground and road networks, connecting smaller locales such as Marshes Siding in the north to Pine Knot and Silerville near the southern border.
