Widow Mountain and its surrounding peaks define this high-elevation portion of the Idaho panhandle, characterized by a complex network of high ridges and deep drainages. The landscape is a haven for backcountry exploration, featuring the Delaney Creek National Recreation Trail and the Flatiron Stinger OHV Trail, which navigate the steep terrain between Lookout Mountain and Crater Peak. Significant water features are scattered throughout the highlands, including alpine basins like Fish Lake, Crater Lake, and the expansive Pinchot Marsh. The drainage system is dominated by the Little North Fork Clearwater River and Marble Creek, which collect numerous tributaries such as Lund Creek and Homestead Creek. Access is limited to a handful of forest routes like St Joe NF RD 301, which winds past Orphan Point in this remote section of Shoshone County.
