Russum and its rural environs in Claiborne County are defined by the winding course of Bayou Pierre and the high bluffs overlooking the Mississippi River floodplains. This landscape is a corridor of deep history, evidenced by the Bayou Pierre Mounds and early family burial grounds such as Daniell Cem, Briscoe Cem, and Holly Hill Cem. The terrain is deeply incised by numerous waterways, including Widows Creek and James Creek, creating a complex network of ridges and hollows that historically dictated settlement and road placement.
