Happy Valley and the surrounding woodlands of Oswego County define this modern study of central New York's Tug Hill transition zone. The landscape is characterized by a high concentration of small kettle ponds and wetlands, such as Coan Pond and Ike Allen Pond, which feed the complex headwaters of the North Branch Little Salmon River. These waterways are central to the region's geography, with the West Branch Fish Creek cutting through the eastern portion of the quadrangle near Kasoag.
