Tenmile Canyon and the surrounding drainage systems define this high-desert landscape where the borders of Grant and Hidalgo Counties meet. The terrain is deeply incised by a series of north-to-south trending washes, most notably South Fork Road Canyon and the forks of Corral Canyon. This 2020 survey illustrates a sparsely settled area where life is organized around water management and transit between distant ranching centers. Isolated water features like Harper Tank and Middle Tank represent vital infrastructure for livestock in this arid environment. Transportation follows the natural contours of the land, with Red Rock Rd and Tyrone Thompson Canyon Rd providing the primary access through the desert floor and canyon mouths, connecting the various township and range sections that divide the territory.
