About this map

Lolo National Forest encompasses the vast majority of this landscape in the Bitterroot Mountains, where steep drainages and mountain summits define the geography of Mineral County. The Clark Fork river cuts through the northern section, shadowed by the historic route of Old US Hwy 10 and the modern interstate. High-altitude hydrology is marked by Wilson Lake and Bouchard Lake, feeding a complex network of creeks including Thompson Creek and Oregon Creek. Evidence of the region's mineral interests is found at the Cordillera Mine located along a southern ridge. An intricate system of forest tracks and trails, such as the Dry Fork Trl and Marble Point Trl, provides access to prominent peaks like Mt Baldy, Sheep Mtn, and Blacktail Mtn. In the south, the terrain levels slightly at Lost Meadows before rising toward the Cayuse Saddle.
