Winchester sits at the edge of a high plateau landscape defined by deep canyon drainages and agricultural plots in this 2010 snapshot of Lewis County. The town is anchored by Winchester Lake State Park and the engineering of the Winchester Dam, which sustains Lapwai Lake and the nearby Winchester Lake Public Fishing Area. Moving south and east from the settlement, the terrain opens into a network of rural roads such as Morrowtown Rd and McCann Rd, connecting small clusters of activity like Woodside and the high point at Mason Butte.
