About this map

Winnemucca serves as a critical desert hub where the Humboldt River flows through the high basin. In the early 1980s, the town's expansion is clearly visible, showing the residential grid alongside the Humboldt County Fairgrounds and the Winnemucca Indian Colony. To the south, the landscape rises sharply into the Sonoma Range, where numerous canyons like Harmony Canyon and Water Canyon cut through the terrain. Evidence of the region's industrial and agricultural history is scattered across the sheet, from the Harmony Mine in the foothills to the Reinhart Dam controlling the river's flow. Local genealogists may find the Wentz Cem a significant point of interest on the western edge of the settlement near Grass Valley.
