Winston and the rural crossroads of Mabel anchor this northwestern Missouri landscape as it appeared in the early 21st century. The terrain is defined by a dense network of drainages including Marrowbone Creek, Brushy Creek, and Rice Creek, which cut through the agricultural grid. These waterways are interspersed with several small reservoirs such as DeKalb A-33 Lake and A-26 Lake.
