The coastal interface of the Tongass National Forest meets the Gulf of Alaska in this 2017 survey of the Yakutat region. The landscape is defined by an intricate network of wetlands and shifting waterways, most notably the Ahrnklin River and Middle Slough. These hydrologic features carve through the low-lying terrain, creating landforms such as Blacksand Island and the protective Blacksand Spit along the coast.
