About this map

The Great Pee Dee River and its complex network of tributaries dictate the geography of this coastal South Carolina region, where the borders of Georgetown, Marion, and Horry counties converge. Historically significant river crossings and old landings are evident, most notably at the Port Harrelson Ferry near Bucksport. The landscape is dominated by expansive wetlands such as Brunson Swamp and Little Pee Dee Swamp, much of which is now preserved within the Waccamaw National Wildlife Refuge.
