Grand Valley and the surrounding desert landscape of Grand County are defined by deep canyons and critical transportation corridors in this recent survey. The Colorado River carves through the southeastern corner, meeting the Little Dolores River at Marble Canyon and the entrance to Westwater Canyon. This area serves as a rugged nexus for recreation and transit, featuring the Kokopelli Trl for mountain bikers and long-established routes like Harley Dome Rd and Sulphur Rd. The settlement of Agate and the nearby Agate Siding mark a legacy of rail access through this arid terrain, where drainage features like Agate Wash, Coal Draw, and Cottonwood Wash dictate the movement of water across the high plateau of May Flat and into the depression of Little Hole.
