Akawa Butte dominates the northwestern landscape of this region, which is defined by the high desert interface between the Deschutes National Forest and the Crooked River National Grassland. The settlement of Geneva sits on the eastern plateau, overlooking a complex system of drainages including Trahan Canyon and Carcass Canyon. The terrain transitions from the volcanic prominence of the butte down into the Lower Desert and the winding course of Whychus Cr.
