The Alberhill industrial landscape and the high ridges of the Santa Ana Mountains anchor this late-1990s survey. Near the junction of Temescal Canyon and the Corona Freeway, the local economy is defined by heavy industry, visible at the Ceramic Factory, several extensive Clay Pit workings, and a large Quarry near the Lake Elsinore corporate boundary. This extraction history contrasts sharply with the protected wilderness of the Cleveland National Forest to the west, where rugged elevations like Trabuco Peak and Los Pinos Peak dominate the skyline.

Evidence of varied land use appears throughout the canyons, including the Old Dominion Mine tucked into the foothills and the Moranville Nudist Camp near El Cariso Canyon. The historical footprint of the Potrero Los Pinos Grant is also preserved, alongside numerous backcountry routes such as the Horsethief Trail and Blue Jay Trail that navigate the steep terrain between Riverside Co and Orange Co.
