About this map

Wayne National Forest covers the northeastern corner of this landscape, where the ridges of Athens and Meigs counties meet. In the early 1960s, the area was defined by a patchwork of small agricultural settlements and a growing extraction economy, evidenced by numerous oil and gas wells and gas wells scattered across Dutch Ridge and Jasper Hill. The Middle Branch Shade River winds through the center of the quadrangle, passing the community of Alfred and the historic Bucks Mill site.
