The village of Alpha anchors the southwest corner of this prairie landscape, situated just north of the county line between Jackson County and Martin County. This 2019 survey documents a highly managed agricultural terrain where the natural flow of water is precisely directed through an extensive network of drainage channels. The E Fork Des Moines River winds through the southern sections, while numerous engineered waterways like Judicial Ditch Number Thirtytwo and County Ditch Number One crisscross the townships of t103n r33w and t102n r34w. To the northeast, the terrain softens into a cluster of natural basins including Big Twin Lake and Duck Lake, which feed into the headwaters of Elm Cr. The map preserves the grid of rural roads and section lines that define this portion of southern Minnesota, reflecting over a century of land division and hydrological modification.
