The Trinity River Delta dominates this coastal landscape, where the river branches into complex networks of passes and coves before reaching Trinity Bay. At the heart of the area, Lake Anahuac is separated from the surrounding marshlands and the tidal waters of Big Hog Bayou by a series of levees and pumping facilities. The town of Anahuac serves as the primary hub, showing a developed grid near the Bayside Community Hospital and the County Airport. To the north, the historic community of Wallisville sits near the crossing of the Trinity River, a critical point of navigation and transport. Local genealogy is well-preserved through numerous family and community burial sites, including the Wiggins Cem, Chapman Cem, and Benjamin Barrow Cem. The economy of the 1990s is clearly reflected in the extensive infrastructure of the Turtle Bay Oil Field and various pipelines traversing the wetlands.
