About this map

The confluence of the Sacramento River and the San Joaquin River dominates this landscape, where the heavy industrial waterfronts of Pittsburg and Antioch meet the intricate sloughs of the California Delta. By the late 1970s, the southern shore had become a dense corridor of infrastructure, featuring the Steel Mill, extensive Industrial Waste Ponds, and the Los Medanos College campus. The rail-and-river economy is evident in the tracks of the Southern Pacific and the Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe RR that hug the coastline near East Antioch.
