Arapahoe and Minnesott Beach anchor the southern reaches of this Pamlico County landscape, where the land meets a complex network of coastal tributaries. To the north, the terrain is dominated by the Light Ground Pocosin, a distinctive wetland characteristic of the North Carolina coastal plain. The hydrology of the area is defined by numerous winding guts and creeks, including the expansive Dawson Creek and Beard Creek, which flow toward the Neuse River.
