Arcadia sits at the western edge of this central Nebraska landscape, where the valley floor meets the dissected uplands of the Loess Hills. The area is defined by the southeastward flow of the Middle Loup River, which supports a complex irrigation network including Canal Number 4 and Canal Number 3. This system of water management is essential to the agricultural productivity of the region, contrasting sharply with the dry, high-relief drainage basins of Hays Cr and Hawthorne Cr to the north.
