The Venetie Indian Reservation occupies the southeast corner of this Alaskan interior landscape, where the East Fork Chandalar River snakes across a broad, lake-dotted plain. This 1972 topography illustrates the transition from the high peaks of the Brooks Range to the marshy lowlands of the Chandalar drainage. Misty Mountain and Smoke Mountain anchor the high ground to the north and west, while the central terrain is defined by the prominent Ottertail Ridge.
