Coal Bank Hill rises above the drainage networks of central Garfield County, a prominent landmark in a landscape defined by seasonal watercourses and remote ranching infrastructure. This 2020 survey documents the complex system of coulees and creeks that shape the high plains, including the headwaters of Cat Cr, Ash Cr, and Lone Tree Cr. The terrain is characterized by the erosional patterns of Penick Coulee and the divergent paths of the S Fork Box Cr and N Fork Box Cr.
