Monrovia and Azusa sit at the foot of the Sierra Madre, anchoring a landscape defined by citrus groves and early suburban growth in the mid-1920s. The region is heavily shaped by its rail connections, with the Pacific Electric, Southern Pacific, and Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe lines all traversing the alluvial plains. This network facilitated the movement of goods and people between the growing residential centers and the rugged canyons to the north, such as Monrovia Canyon and San Gabriel Canyon.
