The Columbia River carves a deep valley through this landscape, creating a distinct boundary between the Okanogan National Forest to the north and the Wenatchee National Forest to the south. The river’s flow is managed through a series of reservoirs, with Lake Pateros meeting Lake Entiat near the small settlement of Azwell. Along the eastern bank, the terrain transitions into the steep rises of Arbuckle Mtn, while the western benches are characterized by a series of agricultural and residential flats including Washington Flat, Highland Bench, and Gossman Flats.
