Kolekfikpuk Lake and the meandering Kongnignanohk River dominate this segment of the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta. This 2020 map documents a complex landscape of water and wetlands, defined by intricate shorelines and countless unnamed ponds characteristic of the Bethel Census Area. The topography is exceptionally low-lying, where the distinction between land and water is constantly shifting, and the drainage patterns of the Kongnignanohk River illustrate the slow, winding path of water across the subarctic tundra. As a modern study, it provides an accurate record of the hydrological state of this remote wilderness in the early twenty-first century.
