About this map

Noatak National Preserve encompasses most of this wilderness landscape in the Alaska-Northwest Arctic Borough, preserving a vast roadless area north of the Arctic Circle. The terrain is defined by the headwaters and drainages of the N Fork Squirrel River, which cuts across the southern portion of the sheet. Further north, the Akikukchiak Cr winds through narrow valleys between high ridges, eventually meeting the Nakolik River in the east. This 2014 survey documents a land without modern infrastructure, where the Public Land Survey System grids, such as t27n r11w, provide the only formal human overlay on a territory dictated entirely by hydrology and topography.
