Winding Stair Mtn and Buffalo Mtn dominate this portion of the Ouachita Mountains in Latimer County. The landscape is defined by a series of prominent ridges and peaks, including Baker Mtn, Eightmile Mtn, and the curiously named Bear Suck Knob. In the northern sections, the high ground gives way to the open reaches of Baldwin Prairie, where roads like Hulsey Prairie Rd and E Hursey Prairie Rd suggest a history of upland ranching or settlement.
