The Benton Range defines the high-desert character of this Mono County survey, where the extraction economy of the late 20th century is mapped through numerous mining claims and prospect sites. Mining history is deeply etched into the slopes of Banner Ridge, evidenced by the Banner Mine Tunnels and the Gold Crown Mine. These operations, along with the Black Rock Mine to the east, speak to the mineral-rich geology that drew industry to the high country of the Inyo National Forest.
