Basin occupies a high-desert valley in southern Idaho where the water-scarce landscape is meticulously managed through systems like the Summit Creek Ditch. The settlement is positioned along Mill Creek at the junction of Basin Rd and S Poleline Rd, serving as a central hub for the surrounding ranching and agricultural lands. Evidence of early settlement is preserved at the Basin Cemetery, situated just south of the main community.
